Double Decker Tacos Taco Bell

These Double Decker Tacos are a perfect recreation of Taco Bell’s iconic menu item. A crunchy taco shell wrapped in a soft flour tortilla with a layer of refried beans, filled with seasoned ground beef, lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes. It’s the ultimate taco experience combining soft, crunchy, and savory flavors in every bite.

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 6 crunchy taco shells
    • 6 small flour tortillas
    • 1 pound ground beef
    • 1 packet taco seasoning
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 1 can (16 oz) refried beans, warmed
    • 1 cup shredded lettuce
    • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
    • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
    • 1/4 cup sour cream (optional)
    • Hot sauce or taco sauce (optional)

    Instructions

    • Cook the Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess grease, then add the taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 5 minutes until the mixture thickens.
    • Prepare the Beans: Warm the refried beans in a small saucepan or microwave until spreadable.
    • Assemble the Tacos:
      • Spread a thin layer of refried beans over each flour tortilla.
      • Place a crunchy taco shell in the center of the tortilla and gently press the tortilla around it so the beans hold it in place.
    • Fill the Tacos:
      • Spoon the seasoned beef into the crunchy taco shell.
      • Top with shredded lettuce, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and a dollop of sour cream or hot sauce, if desired.
    • Serve: Serve immediately for the best combination of textures.

    Notes

    • Customizations: Swap ground beef for ground turkey, chicken, or plant-based crumbles for dietary preferences.
    • Extra Crunch: Add crushed tortilla chips inside the taco for additional texture.
    • Storage: Assemble just before serving to prevent the crunchy shell from getting soggy. Leftover ingredients can be stored separately in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
    • Sauce Options: Serve with guacamole, salsa, or queso for dipping.
