Ingredients
Scale
- 6 crunchy taco shells
- 6 small flour tortillas
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 can (16 oz) refried beans, warmed
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup sour cream (optional)
- Hot sauce or taco sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess grease, then add the taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 5 minutes until the mixture thickens.
- Prepare the Beans: Warm the refried beans in a small saucepan or microwave until spreadable.
- Assemble the Tacos:
- Spread a thin layer of refried beans over each flour tortilla.
- Place a crunchy taco shell in the center of the tortilla and gently press the tortilla around it so the beans hold it in place.
- Fill the Tacos:
- Spoon the seasoned beef into the crunchy taco shell.
- Top with shredded lettuce, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and a dollop of sour cream or hot sauce, if desired.
- Serve: Serve immediately for the best combination of textures.
Notes
- Customizations: Swap ground beef for ground turkey, chicken, or plant-based crumbles for dietary preferences.
- Extra Crunch: Add crushed tortilla chips inside the taco for additional texture.
- Storage: Assemble just before serving to prevent the crunchy shell from getting soggy. Leftover ingredients can be stored separately in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Sauce Options: Serve with guacamole, salsa, or queso for dipping.
