Description
Turkey breakfast sausage is a healthier and delicious alternative to traditional pork sausage, perfect for starting your day with a protein-packed meal. Made with lean ground turkey and seasoned with a blend of savory spices like sage, garlic, and thyme, these sausages are flavorful and satisfying. A touch of maple syrup or honey adds a subtle sweetness, balancing the savory elements. These homemade patties are quick to prepare and can be cooked fresh or frozen for busy mornings. Enjoy them alongside eggs, toast, or in a breakfast sandwich for a wholesome and guilt-free start to your day.
Ingredients
1 pound ground turkey
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dried sage
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for a hint of spice)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey (optional, for a touch of sweetness)
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
1 tablespoon olive oil or cooking spray (for frying)
Instructions
Combine all the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl or plate.
Place ground turkey in a large bowl, then add the blend of spices to the bowl of ground turkey.
Mix well with your hands, add honey and continue until thoroughly combined. Shape into patties (about eight patties).
Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour or preferably overnight for the patty to absorb all the spice flavors.
Heat oil or butter in a large cast-iron skillet, then add the patties. Fry for about 4 minutes per side or until no longer pink in the middle. Do not overcook the patty.
Place patties on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
Notes
- You can wrap the meat mixture with foil, form a log, and partially freeze it. When it’s firm but not frozen solid, slice it into patties.
- An instant-read thermometer will help avoid overcooking the sausage patties. The middle should read at least 165℉/74℃.
- Instead of frying, you can grill the turkey patties to enjoy juicier meat with a smoky flavor.
- You can make a big batch and freeze it. Wrap each patty in plastic wrap, then place in a zip lock bag or resealable freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months.
